THEATRE FESTIVALS

INDIVIDUAL EVENTS FESTIVAL
The Individual Events Festival is a way to take on personal or group projects in acting, singing, and technical theatre, and a great way to put your own creativity and direction into pieces of your choice.
Events include all of the following:
· Choreography
· Costume Design
· Costume Construction
· Duet Musical
· Duet Acting
· Ensemble Acting
· Large Group Musical
· Make-Up Design
· Monologue
· Pantomime
· Playwriting
· Publicity Design
· Scene Design
· Solo Musical Theatre
· Small Group Musical
· Student Directed Scene
You may participate in up to 3 events.
At the beginning of every year, our troupe members have their work critiqued at the Festival, and those receiving a Superior can choose to perform at the State Festival in March.

ONE ACT FESTIVAL
The One Act Festival takes place in December at USF. Each school in the district performs a 30-40-minute one act show. The festival concludes with an award show.
The festival is a great opportunity to meet other thespians from different schools and form closer relationships with your cast and crew. At the festival, you perform a one act and are able to watch other one act performances.
Each year our District takes 4-5 Superior one act plays to the State Festival.
To take part in our school’s one act, you can sign up for tech or audition for a role. Be on the look out for information to be posted. The experience of being a part of the one act festival is truly unforgettable and worthwhile.

STATE FESTIVAL
What do you do at states?
· A variety of different things! You will be able to watch superior rated one acts from all over the state, and you will also see students preform their superior individual events. States offers different workshops on acting, dance, improvisation, tech and more from guest artists from around the country. There are also full length plays or musicals to see each night.
Who can attend?
· Any person who has participated in the Individual Events Festival or the One Act Festival may attend this trip. Students who receive a superior on their Individual Event performance(s) can compete at the State level.
Why should you go?
· This trip offers everyone an opportunity to expand their knowledge of theatre, not only as a group, but as an individual as well. The variety of different performances you will see and the experience of the workshops you attend will help a tremendous amount to improve yourself in theatre.
Cost: $150.00
Dates: March 15-18, 2023 (over spring break)
Where: Tampa Convention Center and Straz Center for the Performing Arts
ALL festival fees are non-refundable.
Festival Behavior & Dress Code Guidelines
Festivals are school functions with students from schools all over the county and state.
Attendees represent our troupe and our school.
Attending festivals is a privilege and a responsibility. Attendees are there to perform, support each others, learn, and have a fun, appropriate time.
Expected behaviors:

Entering and leaving performance spaces quietly. This includes volume level outside as well.

Adhering to the “no applause/noise” rule during IE performances – this is so the judges can do their critiques!

Supporting each troupe member by attending their performances if you are able.

Checking in with Mrs. Walburn at required times.

Using the buddy system.

Staying on festivals campus/ designated areas at all times.
For all festivals:

Students should follow school dress code.
-
Avoid too much jewelry, tight fitting/revealing clothes, uncomfortable shoes, etc.

Undergarments should not be visible at any time.

You should be comfortable, yet respectable looking.
For Individual Events:

Students are encouraged to wear appropriate audition/rehearsal attire.
-
You do NOT have to wear all black, but it is encouraged.

Your outfits should be appropriate to your piece, but NOT a costume.
For States:

During the day, wear comfortable clothing you can move around in. Wear sneakers or super comfortable walking shoes.

For evening mainstage shows, wear semi-formal attire (slacks, skirts, dresses, button up shirt, dress shirt, etc.) Absolutely NO JEANS or FLIP FLOPS.
