THEATRE CLASSES

THEATRE 1

THEATRE3-4 HONORS

This course is designed for students with significant experience in theatre, and promotes depth of engagement and lifelong appreciation for theatre through a broad spectrum of teacher-assigned and self-directed study and performance.  In keeping with the rigor expected in a honors class, students work to artistic growth over time and mastery of theatre skills and techniques in one or more areas. Students in these classes are given an opportunity to focus more closes on their acting or technical skills. 

These are honors level classes. 

Students in these class have the opportunity to direct a one act play in the fall and spring. 

TheatrE & Film

​This course is designed for students to explore the elements of film and cinematic techniques used by those who create movies. Students study the techniques in film that serve the story and articulate the theme. Students are given the opportunity watch movies with a critical eye and discuss their observations with the class.

Technical Theatre

1 & 2 

​Students focus on developing the basic tools and procedures for creating elements of technical theatre, beginning with design elements and applying this knowledge to costumes, lighting, makeup, properties, publicity, scenery, and sound.

 

Students will learn and show technical knowledge of safety procedures and safe operation of theatre equipment, tools, and raw materials.

 

Students also learn the basics of standard conventions of design presentation and documentation; the organizational structure of theatre production and creative work in a collaborative environment.

Center stage

​This course is designed for students to apply their passion and understanding of the theatre to projects and productions. Most work will be presented at district festivals or school showcases throughout the year. Students will engage in workshops and intensive student driven study of theatrical areas of interest. 

**NOT OFFERED FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR**

Be sure to have stage blacks on hand for any basic performance or backstage job.

Always have work/paint clothes on hand for set work.

​​This course is designed for students with little or no theatre experience, and promotes enjoyment and appreciation for all aspects of theatre.

 

Classwork focuses on performance, history, and technical work. Improvisation and beginning scene work are used to introduce students to acting and character development. Project based technical work introduces student to backstage jobs. 

Students in this class perform a one act play in the spring.

​​This course is designed for students with a year of experience or more, and promotes enjoyment and appreciation for all aspects of theatre through opportunities to build significantly on existing skills. Classwork focuses on characterization, and technical theatre; while improvisation and scene work are used to help students challenge and strengthen their acting skills and explore the technical aspect of scene work.

Students in this class perform a one act play directed by a theatre 3 or 4 student in the fall and spring.
